Not sure that's the real sun in this photograph

That definitely looks like the Mountain Pass mine, at least from aerial photography and from the times I myself have driven past on Interstate 15.

The problem is that the sun is apparently visible in camera in the background with a bit of lens flare. The sun at that angle (i.e., sunrise) means that all the colors should be washed out if the camera is facing towards the sun. There is some shadow but the colors on most surfaces are discernible, meaning that the real sun was probably to the right of the camera (i.e., early afternoon).
